The UN's Humanitarian Response to Haiti

UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator

New York, NY — On July 19, 2010, Sir John Holmes, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator for the United Nations, spoke with a group of WFPG members and guests on "The UN's Humanitarian Response to Haiti." Sir John assumed his current position in 2007 and has been the point person for coordinating the UN response to the January 12th earthquake.
At the event, which was co-sponsored by the Institute of International Education, Sir John discussed the progress that has been made in Haiti over the past six months, as well as the challenges that lie ahead in continuing relief and reconstruction efforts. Read more...
DC Celebration of Women Diplomats

Washington, DC – On May 6, 2010, WFPG held its annual DC Celebration of Women Diplomats to celebrate women diplomats at the Croatian Embassy. Ambassadors to the U.S. from Croatia, India, Liechtenstein, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Senegal, and Antigua and Barbuda spoke on the importance of mentoring young women entering the field of foreign policy. The Ambassadors of Burundi to the United States and the Ambassador of Uruguay to the Organization of American States were also in attendance.

NY Celebration of Women Diplomats

New York, NY – On April 15, 2010, WFPG held its annual NY Celebration of Women Diplomats at the home of WFPG member Geraldine Kunstadter. The event, which focused on the achievements of women diplomats, honored six ambassadors to the United Nations and five women consuls general from New York. The diplomats spoke of the role of women in foreign policy and reflected on their own goals and responsibilities.
