On February 13, 2020, Deputy Permanent Representative of France Anne Gueguen, UK Deputy Consul General Laura Hickey, and CNN National Security Analyst and WFPG Board Member Samantha Vinograd, joined the WFPG for a conversation on diplomacy, escalation and brinkmanship with Iran. During the off-the-record discussion, the panelists discussed the impact of recent events, including the drone strike that killed Soleimani and the E3's (France, Germany, and the UK) triggering of the JCPOA dispute mechanism. The speakers also addressed the future of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and threats to regional stability. The discussion was moderated by WFPG Executive Director Kim Kahnhauser Freeman and co-hosted by the Institute of International Education.
