The Continuing Crisis:
Refugees in Europe and the Middle East

Daryl Grisgraber and Izza Leghtas, Refugees International
Moderator: Dawn Calabia, WFPG Board of Directors

Washington, DC—On October 30, 2017, WFPG hosted a conversation on the continuing refugee crisis in Europe and the Middle East. The civil war in Syria, now in its sixth year, as well as the ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, have sparked the largest global displacement of people since World War II. Refugees International Senior Advocate for the Middle East Daryl Grisgraber and Refugees International Senior Advocate for Europe Izza Leghtas shared their first-hand accounts of the situation on the ground. The conversation was lead by WFPG Board Member Dawn Calabia and the program was co-sponsored by American Association of University Women (AAUW) and held at their offices in Washington, DC. WFPG and AAUW also partnered with Western Express' "Mittens from Movers" campaign to collect winter clothing donations to be shipped to refugees in Greece.
