12th Annual Celebration of Women Diplomats

Washington, DC—On April 16, 2019, the Women’s Foreign Policy Group held its annual Celebration of Women Diplomats at the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The program honored the achievements of Ambassadors and Deputy Chiefs of Mission in Washington, DC. Honorees included Ambassadors Roya Rahmani of Afghanistan, Wafa Bughaighis of Libya, Sylvie Lucas of Luxembourg, Rosemary Banks of New Zealand, Thelma Phillip-Browne of St. Kitts and Nevis, and Chargé d'Affaires Boosara Kanchanalai of Thailand. WFPG also recognized Deputy Chiefs of Mission Madina Qasimi of Afghanistan, Mamica Toska of Albania, Joy-Dee Davis-Lake of Antigua and Barbuda, Lara Romano of Croatia, Caroline Vicini of the European Union, Véronique Dockendorf of Luxembourg, Heleen Bakker of the Netherlands, Sheryl Shum of Singapore, Cristina Fraile of Spain, and Natercia Coelho da Silva of Timor Leste. Ambassador Lucas and Ambassador Rahmani gave brief remarks on the importance of mentorship in their careers and in diplomacy, emphasizing the importance of mentoring and role models in developing and encouraging confidence, passion, and curiosity.
