Category: Events
Please join the Women's Foreign Policy Group on Thursday, March 19th, from 5:30 – 7:00 PM, for the next session of our WFPG Book Club! We’ll delve into Free: Coming of Age at the End of History by Lea Ypi, a professor in political theory at the London School of Economics. In 2022, Ypi was named one of the world's top ten thinkers by Prospect magazine, one of the most important cultural figures by the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, and one of the six most important thinkers of 2023 by El País. Based on Ypi's upbringing in both communist and post-communist Albania, her memoir follows her childhood and adolescence as the country shifted from a harsh dictatorship to a fragile democratic system. Through her family’s hidden political past and the upheaval surrounding communism’s collapse, Ypi reflects on what “freedom” truly means, and how contrasting ideological promises with everyday realities reshaped her identity, beliefs, and understanding of society.
Enjoy a relaxed evening alongside WFPG members with guided discussion, meaningful conversation, and light refreshments. Order your copy of Free: Coming of Age at the End of History now! Space is limited, so register soon to reserve your spot! |
