NEW YORK CITY EVENT: Learning & Educating in the Age of AI: Global Opportunities and Challenges
Wednesday, May 06, 2026
Category: Events

On the sidelines of the UN’s Science, Technology & Innovation Forum for the SDGs, join the Women’s Foreign Policy Group and Microsoft in New York City on Wednesday, May 6th, from 1:00-2:45 PM, for a conversation on the opportunities and challenges facing educators in the Age of AI. As governments and stakeholders gather at the UN to assess technology progress, challenges, and opportunities, teachers and educational leaders worldwide are navigating concerns about student learning and development, instructor capacity, and how to integrate AI responsibly and safely in the classroom.

Women—who make up approximately 70 percent of the global education workforce and often express higher levels of skepticism about AI—are central to this transition. How can policy frameworks and education systems ensure women educators are equipped to confidently use AI in the classroom? What system level and classroom level policies are needed to establish a shared foundation of AI literacy for all teachers?

 This panel discussion will explore these questions highlighting current priorities from the public and private sectors and examining how global policy discussions at the United Nations can translate into practical, inclusive approaches that support educators — and in particular women educators — in the digital age.

Our esteemed panelists include:

Ambassador Jay Dharmadhikari, Deputy Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations;

Ambassador Sangjin Kim, Deputy Permanent Representative of South Korea to the United Nations;

Naria Santa Lucia, General Manager, Elevate, Microsoft Corporation;

Randi Weingarten, President, American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and Education International;

Wongani Grace Taulo, Senior Education Adviser, Global Policy, UNICEF

The discussion will be moderated by Michele Lynch, Senior Policy Advisor, TMG & WFPG Board Member.

Lunch and light refreshments will be served.
