Mrs. Ambassador Book Talk

Join author Mary Dupont for a book talk on Mrs. Ambassador: The Life and Politics of Eugenie Anderson on Friday, January 17th at the Library of Congress. The discussion will be followed by a book signing.

Eugenie Anderson achieved historic diplomatic status when President Harry Truman appointed her the first woman ambassador for the United States with a post to Denmark in 1949. Motivated by concern over the rise of communism, Anderson brought energy and eloquence to the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, becoming a friend and lifelong adviser to Hubert Humphrey. Mrs. Ambassador illustrates the real daily life, the compromises, and the challenges of women in politics in the 20th century.
